ISSEA Band

One of the many things that have kept us busy in the month of January is the ISSEA Band festival that was hosted at HIS last weekend.  ISSEA is the International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa (8 in total) and up until this point they have only had Athletic Tournaments.  HIS was proud to host the first of the hopefully many arts festivals that ISSEA will hold in the future.

Happily the directors decided to include the string players (violins on the oboe part and cello on the bassoon) so Abigail and several of her friends from orchestra got to participate.  The students had a great time and put on a fantastic concert at the end of the festival.  In addition to playing in the band, there were elective workshops and so those were also featured on the concert.  Abigail got to play Djembe (an African drum):
In addition to having a child participate, we also hosted two of the other participants who came from the International School of Tanzania - a senior who is from Canada and an eighth grader who is from India.
We could only round up the Canadian for the photo op

The kids that I know who participated all had a fantastic time which they will remember for a long time.
